Media Release: Students confront Environment Minister Guilbeault on Bay du Nord

MONTREAL, April 1st, 2022

Today student strikers for the climate confronted Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault during a press conference held at the Maison du Développement Durable in Montreal about the proposed Bay du Nord oil project. Students held signs calling on the federal Cabinet and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to reject the project wondering if the cabinet was taking them for fools on this first of April by saying their government is serious on fighting climate change and yet could consider greenlighting this project.

Civil Society Advocates to Hold Briefing on Bay du Nord Oil Project on World Water Day

A group of civil society organizations will hold a media briefing on the proposed Bay du Nord oil project next Tuesday, March 22, on World Water Day. Amy Norman and Dr. Angela Carter will also be participating.

The organizations are calling for the Prime Minister, Minister of Environment, and the federal cabinet to reject Bay du Nord given its climate and environmental impacts.

Sierra Club Canada Foundation continues to call for the immediate rejection of the Bay du Nord oil drilling project off Eastern Canada and support for workers and communities in Newfoundland and Labrador to shift to wind, efficiency, and energy storage opportunities. The federal Minister of Environment and Climate Change Steven Guilbeault announced today he will continue to study the impacts of this project before making his decision in 40 days.
