K’JIPUKTUK (Halifax) – News of BP Canada’s dry well offshore Nova Scotia is an opportunity for change, according to the Offshore Alliance, a coalition representing fishermen, environmental groups, and coastal communities. But that’s not the end of offshore drilling in Nova Scotia - BP has permission to drill six more wells, and Equinor (formerly StatOil) is planning seismic blasting in waters adjacent to George’s Bank.
Huffington Post quotes Gretchen Fitzgerald, Sierra Club Canada's national program director, on the issue of blocking charities from public policy dialogue:

K’JIPUKTUK (HALIFAX) - The Offshore Alliance, a coalition of fisher, social justice and environmental organizations, communities and individuals who have concerns with offshore drilling in Nova Scotia, is calling for a moratorium on offshore drilling pending a full federal/provincial public inquiry. The Alliance says the current regulatory regime in the offshore lacks both scientific and democratic legitimacy.
