The Sierra Club Canada Foundation is calling on the federal government not to give more money to the oil industry in Newfoundland and Labrador on top of the $75 million the industry received last week. Based on media reports it appears the industry is lobbying Ottawa hard for even more dollars.
K’jipuktuk/Halifax: The federal government has rejected a number of amendments from the Senate, but not all. Life cycle regulator appointees can now chair review panels. The four life cycle regulators mentioned in the Bill C-69 are the Newfoundland and Nova Scotia Petroleum Boards, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and the new Canadian Energy Regulator.
TORONTO, Ont - Sierra Club Canada Foundation welcomes the Government of Canada's announcement of national actions to combat on plastic pollution. The federal government announced today that it would ban certain single-use plastics by 2021 and work to make plastic producers responsible for the waste they produce.

On Monday, February 25th, we will be in court arguing that the licence to drill in the Gulf of St. Lawrence is illegal.

(Lunenburg, N.S.) – The Offshore Alliance says a so-called 'public engagement exercise' by the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board (CNSOPB) was totally inadequate and is happy to see it scrapped.
The Alliance, a growing association of over twenty Nova Scotia environmental, fisheries and citizens’ organizations, was formed to press the Trudeau government to make good on its promise “to make environmental assessment credible again.”
OTTAWA - Sierra Club Canada Foundation is disappointed, but not surprised, that Federal Environment Minister Catherine McKenna approved up to seven exploratory drill wells for BP off Nova Scotia yesterday. The leases where BP will be drilling are located 48 km from Sable Island National Park and 71 km from the Gully Marine Protected Area, home to the Northern bottlenose whale and deep-sea corals.
TORONTO – Environmental groups took legal action today against the renewal of an exploration licence at Old Harry to protect the Gulf of St Lawrence — home to more than 4,000 species including blue whale, salmon and cod — from unlawful oil exploration.
